Overview

Kukush Pass — also known as Bashkaro Pass — at 4,970 m is one of those rare, dramatic crossings of the Hindukush. One side reveals Chitral's arid, stark landscape; the other opens onto Kalam's lush green valley of grasslands and pine forest.
The route links the upper Ghizer Valley with the Ushu Gol in Kalam Kohistan to the south. Treks begin from Langar Nala, about an hour below the Shandur Pass — a roughly 60 km journey through the Hindukush featuring mighty lakes, rivers, glaciers, boulders, turquoise water, snow, grasslands and freshwater streams.
Highlights along the way include trout fishing at Baha Lake, the cluster of Kukush Lakes, the flag-raising photo moment at the 4,970 m summit, and the descent past Saifullah and Mahodand lakes into Kalam.
Good to know: this is a strenuous, high-altitude trek requiring good endurance and physical strength — the pass crossing tests both. Best in July and August. Don't have gear? We can arrange it or guide you on where to buy it.
