Chukail Banda Meadows, nestled in the Mankial Valley of Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, offers a serene and less-traveled trekking experience. Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,000 meters (10,700 feet), these meadows are renowned for their lush green pastures, diverse wildlife, and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
Best Time to Visit: Late May to September is ideal, with pleasant weather and blooming wildflowers. Nights can be chilly, so appropriate gear is essential.
Flora and Fauna: The meadows are part of a designated national park, home to endangered species such as the Markhor, snow leopards, wolves, black bears, and the golden monal pheasant.
Starting Point: The journey typically begins from the town of Mankial, accessible via the N95 national highway. From Mankial, a challenging 8-kilometer off-road track leads to the village of Kamar Khwa. Due to the rugged terrain, only specially modified 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for this segment.
Trekking Route: The trek from Kamar Khwa to Chukail Meadows takes approximately 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on fitness levels and weather conditions. The trail ascends through dense forests of deodar and pine, alongside glacial streams, before opening up to expansive meadows adorned with wildflowers between May and July.
