Overview

Makra is the trek we recommend for anyone's first taste of the mountains. From the rolling Siri Paye meadows above Shogran, a steady walk leads to a summit ridge with views across Kaghan, Kashmir, and (on a clear day) Nanga Parbat.
Short, scenic, and achievable for any reasonably fit walker — a brilliant introduction to multi-day trekking.
Rising above the emerald meadows of Siri Paye, Makra Peak is one of most rewarding summits — a pyramid of rock and snow whose name means "spider," for the ridgelines that spread from its top like legs across the Himalaya. At 3,885 metres (12,746 ft), it's a peak that fit beginners can actually stand on top of, yet still delivers the full big-mountain payoff: snow underfoot, 360° views of Kashmir and the Kaghan ranges, and a summit day that earns its bragging rights.
Makra stays cold year-round. In summer the weather is consistently cool to moderate and the peak is within reach of anyone with good fitness; in winter (December–March), deep snow and steep gradients turn it into a serious mountaineering challenge.
