Chilam Joshi Festival 2019

One of the most famous festivals celebrated in Kalash is the Chilam Joshi festival during the month of May.  A Spring festival, people wear new dress and women decorate themselves.

The Chilam Joshi festival commemorates the arrival of summer and celebrates the abundance of dairy products during the season. This festival gives an excellent opportunity for far away people to celebrate which gives a message of peace to the world. The people of Kalash love music and dance to the beat of drums.

Both men and women partake in dancing festivities, where they make circles and enjoy the sound of music. During the Chilam Joshi Festival, the community and the elders emphasize the most on the purity of the people so when the Balomain visit the valley the Kalasha followers must have a pure mind.

Day 0: Sunday, 12th May 2019 

• Departure from Lahore via Daewoo or Faisal Movers at 7:00 PM

Day 1: Monday, 13th May 2019

• Departure from Islamabad Tour Rangers Office at 12:30 AM
• Start Journey towards Chitral via ISB-Mardan motorway and further continue journey via Malakand Pass, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir.
• Breakfast in Upper Dir around 8:00 AM.
• Pass through the Lowari Tunnel to enter Chitral Valley.
• Arrival Chitral around 1:00 PM
• Check-in into Hotel – PTDC or Tirch Mir or Hindukush Heights
• Visit Chitral Shahi Mosque and Fort in the evening
• Dinner at 8:00 PM
• Lite music and chit chat along with green tea under the millions of stars.

Day 2: Tuesday, 14th May 2019

• Today, we will set towards Rumbur Valley where we will be experiencing the rituals of Kalasha tribe.
• Breakfast at 8:00 AM, Departure for Rumbur Valley at 9:00 AM
• Rumbur valley tribesman will dance and sing all day along.
• After Rumbur valley festival performance we will set towards Bumburet valley.
• Participants will be staying either in Camps or Hotels as per their package.
• Dinner at 8:00 PM

Day 3: Wednesday, 15th May 2019

• Today, we will be witnessing the Chilam Joshi Festival rituals in Bumburet Valley.
• Breakfast at 8:00 AM
• In the morning, Experience festival dancing in Bumburet.
• Later, visit Bumburet Museum, historical graveyard and see the Kalash homes.
• Participants will be staying either in Camps or Hotels as per their package.
• Dinner at 8:00 AM
• Fireside chat will continue under the millions of stars.

Day 4: Thursday, 16th May 2019

• Today, we will be leaving early for Islamabad to arrive Islamabad in the evening.
• Wake-up call at 5:00 AM
• Breakfast in Darosh at 7:30 AM
• Pass through Lowari Tunnel
• Arrival Islamabad and drop participants.
• End of tour.
