- Kukush Pass is also known as Bashkaro Pass at 4970 meters falls under those rare, dramatic pass crossings in the Hindukush mountain range. On one side is the arid, stark landscape of Chitral. On the other side is the lush green valley of Kalam with grasslands and pine forests.
For trekkers, crossing the Bashkaro/Kukush Pass is a great adventurous story. Trekkers will love the nervous excitement of approaching the Pass over many ledges but the reward is even greater until you stand at 4970 meters. It’s an adventure one can only dream of! The pass is demanding and rarely crossed the pass and links the upper Ghizer Valley with the Ushu Gol in Kalam Kohistan to the south.
Kukush pass treks start from Langar Nala, just an hour drive down below from Shandur Pass. This is approximately a 60km trek through the Hindukush range featuring mighty lakes, rivers, mountains, glaciers, boulders, turquoise blue water, snow, grasslands, and freshwater streams.

Itinerary
Day 0 – Departure from Islamabad
Departure from Islamabad at 10:00 PM from I-8 Markaz
Day 1 – Arrival Chitral & Moving to Langar Nala via Shandur Pass
We start off travel with an introduction where we listen to the unique story of each member, Travel overnight to Chitral in a private booked transport via Lowari tunnel, Reach Chitral in the morning, Breakfast at hotel, Relax for few hours as we will move towards Langar Nala in 4×4 local jeeps via Shandur Pass, Sightseeing of the Hindukush mountains with spectacular views of Tirich Mir, Exploration of Shandur Lake and Pass, Arrival Langar Nala (Trout Paradise) around 5:00 PM, Establish our campsite and call it a day, Dinner and Camping at Langar Nala
Day 2 – Baha Lake (Trout Paradise)
A relaxing day after day 1 excursion although we start our trek early at 6:30 AM for Baha Lake which is known for its trout fish because there’s too many of them, Upon reaching Baha lake at noon, we setup our campsite and serve noodles, Tea, and Fries in lunch before we go start trout fishing in Baha Lake, Dinner and Camping at Baha Lake
Day 3 – Kukush Lakes Exploration and Kukush Basecamp
Start our day early at 6:00 AM in order to reach Kukush basecamp early while we explore the Kukush 2, 3, 4 Lakes along the route and trek through the difficult patch of boulders, this will be the only day where we get a chance to meet few shepherds, Arrival Kukush Basecamp around 3:00 PM, Establish campsite and prepare food, Dinner and camping at Bakarwal Basti /Kukush Basecamp
Day 4 – Grand Finale, Kukush Pass Crossing
The day has finally come where dreams can turn into reality as we push for Kukush Pass crossing, endurance and physical strength will be test as we push under the experience leaders of team tourrangers, photography at 4970 meters as we raise Pakistan flag, descend down to Bahri Bhak, Dinner and Camping in Bahri Bhak
Day 5 – Bahri Bhak to Loot Peryan
It always feels good to wake up after a successful Summit! From this day onwards it’s fairly easy trek as we move down from Bahri Bhak to Loot Peryan, Arrival Loot Peryan at noon, serve noodles, fries, and tea, relax for rest of the day, Dinner and Overnight in Camps at Loot Peryan

Day 6 – Loot Peryan to Saifullah Lake (Kalam)
Finally, we touch base on day 6 in Kalam as we will trek to Saifullah Lake, a beautiful lake just few Kilometers of famous Mahodand Lake, We will have ample time after noon to read a book, play cards or sleep, Dinner and overnight in Camps at Saifullah Lake
Day 7 – Saifullah Lake to Islamabad (Kalam)
It’s time to ahead back home after successfully crossing Kukush Pass, Trek to nearby Mahodand Lake, we will take local jeep to Kalam, where our private booked grand cabin awaits, transfer to our own transport and head back to Islamabad, Arrival Islamabad at 5:00 PM, End of tour with unique memories and unforgettable experience as we say our final goodbyes to new friends.
